Jesus said, “I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 1:10) I want that! You probably want that! No one in his or her right mind would turn that down! But, how can I have it? I know everybody else wants it because I see the evidence of their search as they pile up stuff upon stuff only to find they are still disappointed.

Most of us probably have a less-than-respectful view of beggars. It is easy to understand our justification for this view. Most of the ones we see appear to be strong and healthy. Maybe, we think, they should spend their time looking for and securing a job rather than begging on the street.

Stephanie was 3 or 4 years old when we went to Makin’ Music at Freed-Hardeman College.  (It was a college, then, not a university.)  We were staying at a hotel on the north side of Jackson, TN.  We had seen the show the night before and now it was Sunday morning.

This past year our house was re-appraised. In 21 years, it has been re-appraised twice. That always means the same thing; the taxes go up. Our taxes in those first years were around $420. They went up to $740, where they stayed until this last year. Now, they are over $1,000.
