God Calls the Equipped and Equips the Called
Once children learn to talk, the whole world changes for their parents. One of those changes occurs when those children begin to ask questions. Those of us who have been through that phase of life with our children have probably asked ourselves several times, “Where are they getting all of these questions?”
Sometimes children get in a groove and just ask question after question. We are hardly able to get the full answer to them before they have moved on to the next question. We are left wondering if they even heard the answer.
We all know that parents should not become frustrated or angry with their children for asking questions. We know that the only way to learn anything is to have an inquisitive mind. We should foster the questioning mentality. There is great value in possessing an inquisitive mind. One who questions (and really wants to know!) is much more likely to learn and retain what he learns.
There are many reasons why people should ask questions of God through His word. Those who ask questions of God’s word are people who want to know and do what God expects of them. People who ask questions of God’s word show their respect for that word as the guide for their lives. People who ask questions of God’s word show the next generation the importance of that same word.
It is the inquisitive mind that will search for the truth from God’s word. The spiritually inquisitive mind is the one whom Paul said, “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13). Those who call on God do so because they are answering God’s call to them. Paul also wrote about that call. “For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’” (Romans 10:11).
God is not willing for any to perish (II Peter 3:9). His call has gone out to the ends of the earth. Paul said in Colossians 1:23, “if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul became a minister.”
His desire is for all to answer the call. His promise for those who do is that He will equip them for this life and for the one that is to come. Truly, God calls the equipped and equips the called.
Remember: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (II Timothy 3:16-17).
